Charlotte's Web
Charlotte’s Web is a high-CBD, low-THC hemp strain developed by the Stanley Brothers in Colorado, recognized for its historical significance in the medical cannabis movement and its application in treating severe epilepsy.
About Charlotte's Web
The history of Charlotte’s Web is centered on Charlotte Figi, a young girl diagnosed with Dravet syndrome, a rare and severe form of epilepsy. After conventional treatments proved ineffective, her family turned to cannabis-based extracts. The Stanley Brothers provided an oil derived from a cultivar they had originally named Hippie’s Disappointment—a title reflecting its 30:1 CBD-to-THC ratio and lack of intoxicating effects. Following the successful reduction of Figi’s seizure frequency and intensity, the brothers renamed the strain in her honor.
The strain gained national prominence following reports by Dr. Sanjay Gupta, whose documentation of its efficacy in pediatric and adult patients helped shift public and medical perspectives on low-THC cannabis. Users typically report a sense of gentle relaxation and mental clarity, noting the absence of traditional intoxicating effects due to the strain's high CBD and negligible THC content.
Plant characteristics
The plants exhibit characteristics typical of Sativa-leaning varieties, including long, thin fan leaves. The aromatic profile is characterized by pine and citrus notes. When grown, the plants typically reach maturity in 60 to 70 days indoors or by early October when grown outdoors.
