Chemdog
Chemdog, often referred to as Chem 91, is a foundational hybrid strain originating from a 1991 bag seed discovery. It is widely recognized for its pungent diesel profile and its significant role in the development of the modern Chem, Diesel, and OG Kush genetic lineages.
About Chemdog
The history of Chemdog begins in 1991 when a Grateful Dead fan known as Chemdog sprouted a 13-seed batch. From this batch, four seeds germinated: the plant that became known as Chem 91, Chem’s Sister, Chem Dog B, and a male that was discarded. A later seed from the same batch, germinated in 2001, became Chem Dog D. The authentic clone preserved by Skunk VA is commonly identified as the Chem 91 SkVA cut. While the strain is known by many aliases—including Chem Dawg 91, Chemdawg, and 91 Chem—its precise genetic ancestry remains unconfirmed.
Chem 91 is a cornerstone of modern cannabis genetics. It is widely recognized as a foundational parent of Sour Diesel and is believed to sit behind OG Kush, though the origins of the latter remain a subject of debate. The strain is characterized by a pungent aroma profile featuring notes of diesel, earth, pine, and citrus, with a taste that follows the nose closely. Reported experiences describe a fast, cerebral charge with an upbeat, euphoric edge that transitions into a steady body relaxation while maintaining a lively mental state.
Plant characteristics
Chem 91 is a hybrid that exhibits a tall growth habit with significant stretching during the flowering phase. It is known for heavy resin production and can provide moderate to substantial yields. The plant is noted for a powerful, pungent odor that makes discreet cultivation challenging. Indoor flowering typically requires 63 to 70 days.
