About Master Kush

Master Kush is a name applied to several distinct interpretations of Kush genetics rather than a single, universally documented cultivar. Its history is rooted in the Amsterdam breeding scene of the early 1990s, drawing heavily from Hindu Kush landraces and various Afghan genetics.

There are three primary, distinct origins for the strain. The most widely cataloged version is a cross of Hindu Kush and Skunk #1, which introduced a pungent, skunky complexity to the dense mountain indica profile. A second version, developed by Dutch Passion, utilizes a selection of Hindu Kush and Afghani stock, aiming to remain closer to the landrace foundation. A third interpretation was created by White Label, utilizing plants selected from India and Afghanistan with a unique selection history. Additionally, Ethos Genetics offers a derivative known as Master Kush RBX, which involves backcrossing 1990s Dutch stock with a Master Kush × OG Kush hybrid to reinforce classic traits.

Regardless of the specific origin, the aromatic profile is consistently defined by earthy musk, pungent hash, incense, sandalwood, and black pepper, often with subtle undertones of citrus or pine. The flavor mirrors this, offering dense, earthy notes and charas-like spice with a faint citrus finish. Reported experiences typically describe a calm, happy, and physically relaxing state that often transitions into sleepiness. Potency and intensity vary significantly between breeders and individual batches.

Plant characteristics

Master Kush plants are typically short and compact, making them well-suited for indoor environments with limited vertical space. The flowers are characterized by their density and high resin production. When grown outdoors, the plants can exhibit more significant stretching and perform best in warm, relatively dry climates. The dense, resin-heavy buds are noted to be sensitive to moisture, requiring lower humidity levels to prevent issues during the flowering stage.
