About Nepalese

Nepalese is not a single, uniform strain but a category for cannabis that has adapted across Nepal’s mountains, valleys, and river basins for generations. These genetics entered the Western breeding pool in the 1960s and 1970s, brought back by travelers along the 'Hippie Trail.'

Because these populations are regionally diverse, their aromatic profiles vary widely. While often described as floral and fruity, they can also feature notes of berry, dried fruit, incense, sandalwood, black pepper, clove, cardamom, and herbal tea. Some expressions lean toward bright, floral characteristics, while others are more resinous, earthy, and hash-heavy. Reported effects are typically sativa-leaning, characterized by a clear, buoyant, and mentally open experience. High-altitude or resin-focused populations may provide a steadier physical calm, grounding the otherwise lively headspace. These genetics are deeply linked to the cultural tradition of charas, where resin is hand-collected from living plants.

Plant characteristics

Nepalese landraces exhibit significant phenotypic diversity based on their specific regional origin. Many classic sativa-leaning populations grow tall with narrow leaves, long internodes, and extensive lateral branching. High-altitude accessions tend to be more compact and finish flowering earlier than those from lower elevations or tropical climates. These plants are noted for their resilience, having adapted to cold nights, wet weather, and dramatic temperature fluctuations, which often results in increased vigor and resistance to mold compared to many modern indoor hybrids.
