About NYC Diesel

NYC Diesel—also known as NY Sour, NY Sr Diesel, New York Sour Diesel, NYC Sour Diesel, New York Diesel, or Soma Sour Diesel—was created by the Amsterdam-based seed bank Soma Seeds. The geneticist Soma first bred the strain in 1997. Following the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, the strain was named NYC Diesel as an homage to the breeder's childhood home.

Genetically, the strain is a cross of Mexican Sativa and an Afghani landrace. It is distinguished by a strong aroma and taste of ripe, red grapefruit, often accompanied by a diesel-like quality. Users report that the strain produces soothing effects that maintain mental clarity while relaxing the body. The strain earned second place in the Sativa category at the High Times Cannabis Cup in 2001, 2003, and 2004.

Plant characteristics

The plant produces highly aromatic buds with excellent yields, requiring a flowering period of 70 to 84 days.
