About White Widow

White Widow is a cornerstone of Dutch cannabis history, gaining international prominence in the 1990s. Its genetic lineage is documented as a cross between a Brazilian landrace and a South Indian landrace. The true authorship of the strain remains a subject of long-standing debate, with competing claims involving Green House Seed Company, the breeder Shantibaba, and a breeder known as Ingemar. Consequently, the strain's history is best understood by distinguishing between its documented genetic lineage and the conflicting accounts of its creation.

The strain is defined by its heavy resin production, which coats the flowers in a thick, white layer of trichomes, earning it the name "Widow." Its aromatic profile is characterized by old-school notes of pepper, cedar, earth, and dry wood, complemented by undertones of sweet herbs, pine, and spice. Green House identifies myrcene, alpha-pinene, and beta-caryophyllene as its most prominent terpenes. Users often describe the experience as a two-stage progression: an initial phase of hazy relaxation that transitions into a more energetic, euphoric, and animated cerebral buzz. This reputation for balancing physical calm with mental stimulation helped White Widow spawn a significant genetic lineage, including descendants such as White Rhino and White Shark.

Plant characteristics

The plant typically grows to a short stature with light green foliage. Its flowers are dense and become heavily coated in white, crystal-like resin during a flowering period that lasts between 56 and 63 days.
