About M39

M39 exists as two distinct iterations, both drawing from the Skunk and Northern Lights lineages but utilizing different parental selections. The original version, propagated by the Super Sativa Seed Club, was created by crossing Skunk #1 with Basic #5, which is widely identified as Northern Lights #5. This lineage was later offered by Quebec Cannabis Seeds. Consumer accounts of this classic version frequently note flavors of earth, wood, and tobacco, with occasional reports of fruit and lemon. It is famously associated with the Canadian “beasters” market, though the reputation of that label is often tied to inconsistent handling and labeling rather than a specific genetic cut.

A separate rework was developed by the Old School Breeders Association, which utilized Atomic Northern Lights and original Roadkill Skunk. This version aims for a more pungent profile, characterized by earthy sweetness and spice. While the original M39 is often described as calming, tingly, and sleep-inducing, the reworked version is reported to provide a more pronounced euphoric lift and physical heaviness. Both versions are commonly associated with increased appetite.

Plant characteristics

The original Super Sativa Seed Club release was sold as regular seed, with the catalog highlighting the compact, resinous nature of the Basic #5 mother plant. Later stock from Quebec Cannabis Seeds is described as feminized, featuring a low profile, easy cloning, and good branching, with a flowering time of approximately 43 days. The Old School Breeders Association rework is noted for its tight growth and limited stretch during the flowering phase, which lasts six to seven weeks. These plants produce compact green buds accented by orange to brown pistils.
