About Purple Haze

Purple Haze is a name with more historical weight than documented pedigree. Its origins trace back to the California Haze scene of the late 1960s and 1970s, where purple-hued expressions were identified within the Original Haze population. Sam the Skunkman has historically characterized these plants as part of the early Haze family, specifically noting Colombian bloodlines rather than a distinct, modern cross. The name itself emerged during the same era as Jimi Hendrix’s 1967 song and the circulation of purple LSD, cementing its place in the counterculture lexicon.

Because of decades of name reuse and independent breeding, modern Purple Haze is not genetically uniform. While some versions are attributed to a cross between Haze and Purple Thai, others represent the historical, purple-leaning expressions of the original Haze lineage. Users typically describe the experience as a bright, cerebral, and euphoric lift that encourages creativity and social interaction before transitioning into a lighter, relaxed finish. The flavor profile is generally characterized by notes of grape, blueberry, sweet herbs, earth, and spice, though the classic, heady Haze profile remains the defining feature.

Plant characteristics

The plant produces fluffy, deep green flowers that can flash with purple and violet hues. The buds are typically covered in a heavy coat of trichomes, giving them a frosted appearance. When flowering, the plant emits a bouquet of earthy and sweet aromas.
