About Strawberry Cough

The history of Strawberry Cough is rooted in a clone-only cut that rose to prominence through the efforts of Kyle Kushman. As the story goes, Kushman received a small clone from a novice grower in Connecticut. Initially unimpressed, he reconsidered after noticing the plant's intense, fresh-strawberry scent. Rather than keeping the genetics proprietary, Kushman distributed the clone throughout New York and later brought it to the West Coast, facilitating its widespread availability. While it is frequently cited as a cross between Haze and Strawberry Fields, the original breeder and the exact genetic pedigree remain a subject of debate.

The strain is defined by a prominent profile of fresh strawberries and sweet berries, complemented by notes of flowers, herbs, earth, pine, and a sharp, Haze-like spice. The smoke is noted for its expansive quality, which is widely credited for the "Cough" portion of its name. Users typically report a clear, energetic, and cerebral high characterized by euphoria and creativity, often accompanied by a social, lively quality. While there is a subtle underlying relaxation, the experience is generally described as bright and uplifting.

Beyond its reputation in the New York cannabis scene, the strain achieved formal recognition when it won 1st Place for Best Flower at the 2013 High Times Cannabis Cup.

Plant characteristics

Strawberry Cough typically grows into a bushy plant of medium height. Despite its reported sativa-dominant genetics, the buds often exhibit a denser, more indica-like structure. It is considered accessible for both indoor and outdoor cultivation, with a flowering period lasting between 63 and 70 days and producing average yields of large flowers.
