AK-47
A long-standing hybrid staple since 1992, AK-47 is a multi-landrace cross known for its rapid cerebral onset, spicy-herbal flavor profile, and consistent, award-winning reputation.
About AK-47
Introduced in 1992 by Simon of Serious Seeds, AK-47 is a complex hybrid derived from a blend of Mexican, Thai, Afghan, and Colombian landrace genetics. Its name is often misunderstood; rather than implying aggression, it refers to the strain's reputation as a "one-hit wonder" due to its potent and immediate cerebral impact.
The flavor profile is characterized by spicy and herbal notes, likely featuring a blend of myrcene, pinene, and caryophyllene, accented by flashes of citrus sweetness and floral spice. Users typically report an earthy-sweet inhale followed by a distinct peppery exhale. The experience is often described as a rapid lift in mood and focus, transitioning into a buzzing, social euphoria that encourages conversation and creativity. This energy tends to remain steady for several hours before settling into a mellow, relaxed state.
Beyond its own popularity, AK-47 has served as a foundational genetic component for other well-known strains. It was crossed with White Widow to create White Russian, and with Northern Lights and Skunk #1 to develop Chronic. Throughout its three-decade history, the strain has received dozens of awards in various cannabis competitions.
Plant characteristics
The plant typically reaches a medium height with a relatively low leaf-to-flower ratio. It produces dense, fat clusters of large colas that are noted for being heavily coated in resin. During the flowering stage, which lasts between 56 and 63 days, the plant is known to emit a strong odor. When grown outdoors, it reaches maturity around October 15. Feminized versions of the strain may exhibit a shorter stature and require approximately one additional week of flowering compared to non-feminized versions. THC content has been tested as high as 21.5%.
