The name Diamond Runtz refers to two separate breeding projects. The first, developed by Oakland-based Always Be Flowering (ABF) Genetics in collaboration with CV420 of Black Tuna Seed Company, is a hybrid cross of Delta Diamonds and Runtz. This lineage incorporates genetics from Gorilla Glue #4, Mendo Breath, and Gelato. It is characterized by a sweet, creamy, dessert-like flavor profile.

A second, less common version of Diamond Runtz exists from unknown breeders. This iteration is reported to be a cross of Hylife, Gorilla Breath, and Trix #6. This version is noted for a flavor profile dominated by bright citrus and fruit notes, finished with a menthol-like sensation. Users of this version report euphoric, giggly, and uplifting effects, typically associated with low to moderate THC levels.
