About Mtf

Matanuska Thunderfuck (also known as MTF or Humble Warrior) carries a reputation as one of Alaska’s most prominent cultivars. While the original pedigree of the strain remains unconfirmed, its preservation is documented through the work of AK Bean Brains. In 1987, the breeder acquired an Alaskan MTF cut and crossed it with Northern Lights #1, subsequently backcrossing the offspring to recover the mother’s traits. While Afghani ancestry is associated with this breeding line, it does not definitively identify the parents of the original MTF cut.

The aromatic profile is characterized by deep, musky earthiness, soft floral undertones, and a distinct chocolate note that provides a dark, complex foundation. The BX3 selection from AK Bean Brains is noted for a profile that blends milk-chocolate sweetness with fruity, wine-like sangria notes. This cocoa-heavy flavor profile is a signature of the strain, offering a rich, cellar-like quality.

Reported experiences suggest a euphoric lift that transitions into deep physical relaxation, often accompanied by a significant increase in appetite. Users note that while the head may remain active, the body often feels heavy, making the strain better suited for low-obligation settings. Because the strain has been subject to various selections, effects can range from bright and cerebral to heavily sedative.

Plant characteristics

The MTF line from AK Bean Brains is characterized by a short, stout, and sturdy frame, with a uniform structure suited to sea-of-green cultivation. The BX2 selections offer more variation, while the BX3 selection more closely emphasizes the original mother’s traits. Indoor flowering is commonly listed at approximately eight weeks, though individual plants can finish differently. There is no established universal bud color, yield, or outdoor harvest date for the strain, as these traits vary across different selections.
